Brief portrait

Since its inception in 1978, the Max Schmidheiny Foundation has advocated the promotion of a free economic and social order.

Between 1979 and 2003, the annual, internationally renowned freedom prize – winners include Kofi Annan, Nicolas G. Hayek, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Médecins sans frontières, Jorma Ollila, Romano Prodi, Andreas Rihs and Muhammad Yunus – has confirmed this intention.

Currently, the Max Schmidheiny Foundation is pursuing various projects, all focussed on “Entrepreneurship and Risk”. Regular forums reflect an ongoing commitment to the dialogue amongst the younger generation of decision makers from industry and politics. The foundation also finances and supports the Max Schmidheiny Foundation Professorship at the University of St. Gallen, which turns the spotlight on entrepreneurship and risk from the perspective of law and economics. It also maintains a close partnership with the St. Gallen Symposium – the international management symposium at the University of St. Gallen.
